I like windows.......

Old windows are perfect to use them as picture frames. For luck I've an aunt, which had some old window frames and gave them to me... :)

One I'm using as bulletin board with the newest works and another I've used here. Now she gave me another two windows...
Here my little window frame collection:

The brown is one of the new windows. I put the triptych "the walking past" in it:

where am I ???

Today I printed on a city map of Berlin. Well, it was my first time to use a city map and it's really complicated, because of course the size of a map is much larger than a simply A4 printer, and therefore there're some problems, but I think with more practice I want to overcome these problems.

picture in the picture...

It's really quite funny on what kind of ideas you can come, if you work on just one or two photos...
Therefore once more some works with the well known beach photos.
Today I added some old b&w pictures out of the 1930-1950s to the both photos.

WIRRWARR goes to Itamaraty!

This year I want to participate at the III CONCURSO ITAMARATY DE ARTE CONTEMPORÂNEA competition with the "WIRRWARR 76.13" triptych:

See here other works on drawing paper.

WIRRWARR 08/15

Perhaps you've just noticed, that I made different palimpsests with two pictures from the floripa-session.
First I've used the both pictures, because I just like them, but then I had the idea to make an exhibition with only works which are based on them.

The title of this exhibition will be "WIRRWARR 08/15".

Wirrwarr is a german word and means chaos. In August will be one more time the COLMEIA event in Blumenau (Brazil) and I'll show some works which I made this year. I call the setlist (see it here) "WIRRWARR". The explanation is:
"Wirrwarr means chaos, anarchy, against any hierarchy, not follow the conventions, replace the status quo."
08/15 is a german figure of speech and is a common, dismissive phrase for something ordinary and nothing special, average, mediocre, prepared without care or nothing worth mentioning. In part, this phrase is also used for "outdated and cheap material" or just "cheap". The term also signifies standard.

If you use the two terms together, there is something very dialectical in it. The dialectic is, that I use two pictures to make different works. I repeat these two pictures, which always show the same motives. But every work has its own individuality and breaks out of the standard, out of the norm and replace the status quo of the original picture.
Of course, the majority of these works are palimpsests, printed on "outdated and cheap material".
But as I had already described, to make a palimpsest isn't an exact science with norms. You've always the surprise factor when you made palimpsests.

But I won't only show palimpsests, but also photo-montages and sandwich works.
Like this sandwich:

The first work, which I made with one of these two pictures, was the "Das Meer, die Nacht und deine Liebe" (in English "The sea, the night and your love") panoramic palimpsest, where I printed on pages from a German "Groschenroman" or as I call them "Herzschmerzromane".
For about a year I've been doing experiments with these "Groschenromane", not only to print on the pages, but also to use the covers. The covers are always very kitsch. To use the covers I cut the original pictures out and use my own photos.

I hope that one day I can make this exhibition...

palimpsests on technical drawings

Back in the 1970s, my dad was a student and had to make technical drawings. Well, I had to do this at the university as well...Luckily it is behind us...Today I remembered to my father's wallet with his drawings and sought out four drawings for palimpsests. Once more I've used some of the pictures, which I shot at one of the beaches of Florianópolis, Brazil.

But drawing paper is very fine, so this one almost was destroyed in the printer:

EDIT 03.06.13:

But it works with a little sense of delicacy... Well, I taped the drawing paper with scotch tape at the corners of an ordinary sheet of paper and after the print I removed the scotch tape:

And here my work for an important competition.

THE WIRRWARR!

Sometimes you create chaotic, strange or funny things when you work with Photoshop. Last month I created a picture with strange collateral effects. See here.
Today I made a paper collage with several pieces of paper:

I glued everything on a sheet of paper in the size 20x30cm.
I'm always very hectic, so I didn't wait until the glue dried, but printed the picture immediately on the still wet paper collage...
What can I say? It's a cool chaotic effect...

siegerurkunden.

If you are or were a pupil in Germany, you know the Bundesjugendspiele (Federal Youth Games) and certainly you hate them. It's every year the same old shit since the 1950s.

My father took part in the competitions in the 1960s and won in 1964 and 1966 in the Dreikampf (three-way battle) Siegerurkunden (winner's certificates).
Here the scan of his 1964 winner's certificate:

30 years later I also took part in the Bundesjugendspiele and won in the years 1994, 1996 and 1997 in the Leichtathletik / Dreikampf (Athletics / three-way battle) winner's certificates.
Here the scan of my 1994 winner's certificate:

Today I've printed on the 1966 and the 1996 winner's certificates two pictures to test whether it is worthwhile to use the paper for palimpsests.
"dreikampf 1966", brasil, 2013
"leichtathletik 1996", brasil, 2013
I think that the winner's certificates are perfect for palimpsests!
I'll use the other three winner's certificates (1964, 1994 and 1997) for a triptych, but I still not know which pictures I'll print on them.

it's complicated!

It's really complicated to print on bank notes, because you have to choose the right photo. The best is a black and white photo with a clear structure, but this is no guarantee for a good palimpsest.
The most complicated is that the structure, the pattern, the colors of the money fit to the structure of the photo, if not the entire palimpsest looks confused.
But of course, to make a palimpsest isn't an exact science with norms. You can calculate many things ahead, but how the end product really will be, is often in the stars. It's really learning by doing and learning from errors. But this is art!

I made some palimpsests with bank notes. The majority of them are really good, but two of them weren't good.
Therefore I've decided to scrape off the ink, so that I can use them once more. Yes, the definition of a palimpsest is exactly this what I did now. But it didn't work. Then I thought that I can use the other side of the bank notes, the side, which stuck to the paper, which I've used for the bank note collage. And this plan worked good.
Of course, rests of the paper remain on the bank notes, but I like this.
Now I've made three new bank note collages. Two in the size 20x30cm and the other one in the size 14x17,5cm.

I already had an idea which photo I'll use for the small one. This:
"eos vs. eos", brasil, 2009
But as I had already described, to make a palimpsest, particularly on bank notes, isn't always crowned with success.

Here the other two palimpsests...
